Publication Timeline & Review
Overview
Informatica is committed to a fair, independent, and timely peer-review process. This page explains how manuscripts are handled from submission to publication, and how our processing tiers relate to time to first editorial decision.
Peer review model
Informatica uses single-blind peer review: reviewers may see author identities, while reviewer identities are not disclosed to authors. Primary research articles are subject to external peer review and editorial oversight.
Editorial workflow
- Submission received (online system)
Authors submit the manuscript and supporting metadata via the journal platform. - Initial editorial screening
The editorial office checks scope fit, basic completeness, and policy compliance (including originality screening where applicable). Manuscripts may be returned for corrections or declined at this stage if they are clearly out of scope or not ready for review. - Tier confirmation (N / F / UF)
After the manuscript is accepted into the review procedure, authors confirm the selected tier by replying via email. Timeline targets are measured from this tier-confirmation point (not from the initial upload date). - Reviewer invitation and external review
The handling editor invites independent reviewers and manages the review process. (Authors may be asked to suggest potential reviewers; conflicts of interest are managed by the editors.) - First editorial decision (Round 1)
The editor issues a decision based on reviewer reports and editorial assessment. - Revisions (if required)
Authors submit a revised manuscript and a response to reviewers. - Further review (if required)
For major revisions, the manuscript may be sent for an additional round of external review. - Final decision and production
If accepted, the paper proceeds to copyediting/proofing as applicable and is scheduled for publication.
Decision outcomes
Typical outcomes after review include:
- Accept
- Minor revision
- Major revision
- Reject
Processing tiers and time-to-first-decision targets
Authors may select one of the following tiers (targets refer to time to first editorial decision / Round 1, measured from the tier-confirmation email):
| Review type | Target | Typical median | Fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| N (Normal) | 6–12 months | 11 months | None |
| F (Fast Track) | 3–6 months | 5 months | None |
| UF (Ultra-Fast — paid service) | ~1 month | 3 weeks | €1,090 |
Tier selection is made by entering N, F, or UF in “Comments for the Editor” at submission. If UF is selected, authors should also email fast-track-editor@informatica.si after submission to confirm the UF request and enable expedited handling.
Important note: Tier selection affects processing priority and handling speed only. All manuscripts are evaluated under the same editorial standards. Choosing a tier (including UF) does not guarantee acceptance.
Platform statistics (OJS)
The journal platform reports the following calendar-year averages:
- 2025: Days to review 29; Days to publication 83
- 2024: Days to review 88; Days to publication 208
These values are generated by the journal platform and may vary depending on submission mix, reviewer availability, and revision cycles.
Transparency and links
- Fees and payment rules (including when the UF fee is charged) are described on APC & Fees.
- Ethical requirements, conflicts of interest, misconduct handling, and appeals are described on Publication Ethics.
